Matthew Ball Pushes Back on GTA 6 Xbox Cloud Gaming Exclusivity Report

Update, October 7, 2026: The Verge corrected its report to say the deal is not exclusive and doesn’t include PC streaming. Reporter Tom Warren says GTA 6 will still be on Xbox Cloud Gaming. Xbox and Rockstar haven’t confirmed this.

Xbox Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball has denied a report that Xbox cloud gaming will be the only service able to stream Grand Theft Auto 6 at launch. In his latest X post, Ball said the game “will not be streaming exclusively or to PC.”

Key points

  • The Verge reported GTA 6 Xbox cloud gaming rights for the title at the time of launch.
  • Ball wrote on X that the excitement around Xbox and GTA 6 “has also led to some misreporting.” He added that Xbox plans to release the game on its Series X|S consoles on November 19, 2026.
  • Ball didn’t say the whole report was wrong, nor did he specify which part he meant. Also, there’s no update from Rockstar Games and Take-Two on this.
  • Rockstar has not announced the GTA 6 PC launch date.

Ball’s post on X reads, “While the excitement for GTAVI and XBOX is great to see, it has also led to some misreporting. We are looking forward to launching GTAVI on XBOX November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC.”

From his wording, it’s clear that he’s targeting multiple points of the recent reports. His statement disputes the exclusivity and the PC streaming angle. But he didn’t address whether GTA 6 will be available through Xbox cloud gaming at all.

What The Verge Reported

According to The Verge, Xbox cloud gaming will be the only service that will stream GTA 6 at launch, allowing PC players to stream it.

Kotaku says the claims were remarks by Asha Sharma (Xbox’s CEO) during one of the company’s meetings. The exclusivity point wasn’t reported and was added by other outlets covering the title. Vice mentioned that Rockstar had not confirmed the deal.

The cloud-hour limits

Finally, a big change is coming to Xbox cloud gaming in November, according to Tom’s Hardware. The monthly limits will be 5 hours (essential), 10 (premium), and 15 (ultimate).

According to him, extra hours can be purchased, but he didn’t mention the pricing. And there’s no confirmation about how GTA would count these against the Cloud-hour limits on Xbox’s service.

Not yet. There’s no official update from Rockstar on the GTA 6 PC version, the date, or required specs.
Cloud streaming and PC release are two completely different things, and there’s no update on either one of them at the moment.
