GTA 6 Seasons: Does Rockstar’s Weather System Include Them?

Game Informer’s cover story does not confirm a GTA 6 seasons system for the upcoming title. The company’s vice president of art for lighting and rendering, Owen Shepherd, described weather from clear Miami-winter skies to towering thunderclouds as common on Florida’s summer and autumn afternoons. He further framed his statement by saying it’s a range the system can produce, not a calendar. A particular effect is only tied to a particular time of the day, like the offshore breezes after sunset.

Shepherd added more to Game Informer’s cover story interview, saying the new cloud system provides a broad spectrum of weather, including “vertiginous cumulonimbus clouds with sporadic lightning.”

Some reports by big media outlets went further and said real-life seasons will be simulated. But the cover story doesn’t say that anywhere.

The time-linked points came from Shepherd’s wind system list. The details he shared include offshore breezes, once the sun goes down, convectional updrafts and wind blocked by buildings.

That indicates the changing behavior of wind by time of day. Rockstar hasn’t confirmed that storms follow a similar pattern, so don’t believe such claims online until it’s confirmed.

For real-world context, the National Weather Service in Miami has defined May 15 to October 15 as the wet season in South Florida.

The storm period runs from mid-May through early July. NOAA also explains that a sea breeze can trigger Florida’s thunderstorms, and strong west winds can stop them from happening. According to WeatherNation, at night, a land breeze blows out to sea and storms collapse.

If Rockstar mirrored all these real-life environmental movements in GTA 6, whether in the weather or seasons, then launch week would fall in the dry season. Rockstar hasn’t said it does.
