GTA 6 Will Have Hurricanes and Tropical Storms, Game Informer Reports

GTA 6 weather system will feature tropical storms and hurricanes, along with localised storms and lasting rain effects, according to Game Informer’s report. Rockstar itself hasn’t spoken about how often the big storm occurs or how it affects the story or the gameplay. Game Informer confirmed these details in its Rockstar cover story, revealed on September 29, 2026.

According to Game Informer’s Marcus Stewart, the weather system for the upcoming title is designed to simulate the tropical climate of Florida, the real-life inspiration for the Leonida state.

He added that the dynamic clouds roll across the map, developing conditions from clear skies to overcast days.

The report further adds that the storms are localized. So a player in the dry sunshine can watch heavy rainfall happening elsewhere.

And when a player drives to that spot after the storm passes, he/she can witness puddles and wet surfaces that justify that it rained here.

Another big update on the weather is rainbows, which, under the right lighting, might appear after a shower.

Tropical storms and hurricanes are part of the GTA 6 dynamic weather system. Game Informer confirms that Leonida State will see both.

According to Insider Gaming’s story, Rockstar’s Shepherd describes them as heavy cloud cover, strong winds and a dense atmosphere with heavy rain. Water pours off roofs and lampposts, thunder rumbles, and lightning brightens the clouds.

Shepherd is identified as Rockstar’s VP of art for lighting and rendering, so these inputs are worth noting for the upcoming title.

A new wind system is also likely on the way, which can add offshore breezes after sunset, updrafts and wind blocked by buildings, according to Game Informer’s report released on September 29.
